Prima Paint Care Products – What Order?

April 9th, 2010

A common question we receive from inexperienced users is “what order do I use the products in?” or “what if I use this product before this product?”

Below is a basic explanation of what products should be used in what order and why.

Group 1 – Compounds, Polishes and pre-wax cleaners/glazes

Prima Cut, Prima Swirl, Prima Finish and Prima Amigo are all paint preparation products to be used before application of your wax. Each product serves a different purpose in paint preparation, and using any of them after application of your wax will either serverely damage your wax layer or remove it completely.

Group 2A – Base Sealant

Prima Epic makes up Group 2A.

This product should be used as a base sealant for your paint protection after correct cleaning of the surface with any or all of Group 1.

It is a synthetic wax that bonds directly with the paint, cross-linking polymers form a shield against environmental damage. You will experience your car staying cleaner for longer, and removal of contaminents such as bug residue will be a breeze.

Paint Protection is only as good as the maintenance that comes with it. It is highly recommended to remove bird droppings and bug residues as soon as possible, before they eat through the sealant layer and etch the paint.

Group 2B – Carnauba Wax

Prima Banana Gloss makes up Group 2B. Banana Gloss may be used as a stand alone product or as a “booster” product to Prima Epic. When using Banana Gloss in combination with Prima Epic, always ensure you leave the Epic at least 12 hours to cure before applying the Banana Gloss.

It is important to understand that Banana Gloss being a Carnauba (natural wax) based product must not be used before a synthetic wax like Prima Epic. Applying a synthetic wax on top of a natural wax will not enable the sealant to bond correctly with the surface.

Group 3 – Booster Wax

Technically, Prima Banana Gloss can also be included in this Group, however Prima Hydro is the predominant choice when it comes to boosting your paint protection.

Prima Hydro is a remarkable product and an essential ingredient in the Prima paint care process. Once or twice a month (depending on conditions) mist Prima Hydro on the panels after a wash. This 10 minute routine will boost protection for another 4-6 weeks and extend the life span of your base sealant below.
